Æsc 7

The Story of the Æsc

The Æsc 7 is a one-of-a-kind heavy metal guitar based on the explorer shape made for Stone Wolf Guitars endorsing artist Laird Logan, the Scot of mediæval death metal outfit Hærken. Initially he was just looking for an Explorer style build with a single pickup and an Evertune® bridge.

During the build things got a bit more complex……We decided to leave the guitar fretless from the 15th onwards. This gave him the option to use a capo on the 15th and create some interesting, almost lute like, tones. Laird Logan was a great person to build for as he wanted almost the opposite from his guitar to 90% of other guitarists. He wanted it to weight as much as possible and have high action. His bottom string is a 0.090 gauge so we had to drill out the machinehead and saddle to get it to fit.

The look and materials of the guitar also were very customised. The theme of the guitar was built around the band’s logo, the Ash tree. This meant a body made from Ash, with a Spalted Ash top. Custom fretboard inlay showing the “Æ” symbol and a truss rod cover to match Laird Logan’s tattoo.

I think it’s safe to say he couldn’t have found anything like this “off the peg” and it was an absolute pleasure to build this beast for him.

The Romero

The Story of the Romero

The Romero was probably some of the most fun we’ve had with a custom commission. The brief was a guitarlele using our resin/burl hybrid build method. The plan evolved over a few weeks but it progressively got more and more interesting. The end result was a Batman themed build using Lego® figurines and marbles, that the customer had owned since he was a child.

The scale length we settled in was 19″ and it’s an absolute blast to play! A perfect build to have by the sofa for when you feel like having a casual noodle. This is a great example of the beauty of a custom commission, you really get to call the shots and it’s great fun to bring the whole thing to life!

The Teumessian Fox

The Story of the Teumessian Fox

The Teumessian Fox was commissioned by our endorsed artist, Cyril Fehr, from the Swiss slam metal band “Dynamite Abortion. We worked closely with him to bring his concept of a 7 string multiscale ST style to life.

Cyril chose a beautiful Buckeye Burl top for the build, and saw a black fox head in the wood’s patterns, thus naming the build “The Teumessian Fox”. He matched this top with a Swamp Ash back to keep the body lightweight and chose a Wenge, Sapele and Maple neck for a stark contrast.

We worked with Cyril to build him a guitar that was right for him, every contour and dimension was checked with him before we cut them. We can’t wait to see him slaying the stage with this guitar!

C.Masta 6

The Story of the C.Masta 6

The C.Masta 6 was commissioned by our endorsed artist, James Tomedi, from “Burial in the Sky”. He had played Carvin® guitars before and loved how they felt, but was after a custom headless of his own design.

The shape took some inspiration from our Catalyst stock models but it is very much James’s own creation. He chose an amazing Pale Moon Ebony top, which works so well with the Swamp Ash, Purpleheart and Black Palm base.

James requested a custom inlay of a lotus flower on the 1st fret and his initials on the 12th. We made these out of Pale Moon Ebony, to tie the body and neck together, aesthetically.

We went with T4M (Technology for Musicians) hardware, as they make a great headless trem system and a pair of Bare knuckle pickups® round out a great spec list for this build.

Jackal

The Story of the The Jackal

The Jackal was a commission from a long time customer of ours. He previously bought a couple of our stock models, liked different aspects about them and wanted to combine them into his own custom model.

The Jackal’s shape was loosely based on our “Sentinel V2” design but with a deeper bottom cut and removing the offset. Our customer asked us to give it some carving to the edges, to give comfort and an aesthetic contrast of the different woods.

We went through several design revisions and spec changes until we settled on something that worked for all that our customer wanted out of the guitar.

Thunor

The Story of Thunor

Thunor, was built to all of the personal specifications of Stone Wolf Guitars endorsing artist Wieland Matzig. He provided us with a rough design and we worked with him to bring it to life. He wanted a superstrat look but with a subtle bottom cutout. Carving around the edges and back make the body very comfortable.

We also finished the guitar with custom decals, designed by Wieland. The body decal is his band’s logo and the headstock decals are designed in the Norse rune style.

Lycan

The Story of the Lycan

The Lycan was built for Stone Wolf Guitars endorsing artist Stephen Mussett, rhythm guitarist from the band “Out of Context”. Stephen liked our Inferno V2 stock model but wanted something a little more metal orientated.

The inlay brief we had was “3 scratches”. We sat down and designed these 3 tears in the fretboard and he loved them!

We worked closely with him to design the Lycan to his specifications. It was built from the ground up to be a metal riff machine and does the job very well indeed!

Ramonas – Rohnny Rep

The Story of the Rohnny Rep

This guitar was one of our first ever commissions. It was to be built for the Ramones tribute band, “The Ramonas” and was to be an homage to the genuine article, the JR Mosrite. We built it to be as faithful to the original as we could, however we had no firm designs or specs of the real thing to go on. We estimated a lot but in the end were very pleased with the end result.

To the band’s request we also added their band logo to the body of the guitar and signatures to the back of the headstock.

We ended up re-building the neck about a year or so after the guitar had been completed, to give Rohnny a thinner neck profile and steeper headstock angle. This guitar is still being used on their tours and has seen countless different countries and venues!

Ramonas – Pee Pee Bass

The Story of the Pee Pee Bass

This bass was built as a companion piece to the Rohnny Rep, above. This was also built for the “Ramonas”, Ramones tribute band. It was to be an homage to the Dee Dee Ramone Fender® P-Bass.

We built it to be as faithful to the original as we could, luckily it was a lot easier to obtain dimensions for this, than it was for the Mosrite®. We finished it in standard Olympic white with a decal of the band’s logo.
